The Committee has made the preparation of a CWPP its highest priority.  Not only does the plan offer a guide to wildfire mitigation and preparedness but its very existence opens the door to a variety of grants which might otherwise be denied: grants that will allow us as SFTR residents to accomplish fire mitigation more quickly and more efficiently around our homes and on our properties.
The plan strives to UNITE.  It does not interfere with the existing structure or procedures of any agency, group or committee that becomes involved.  The cooperation and advise of many partners was vital to the completion of the CWPP. Those partners included the FPFPD and neighboring Fire Districts, emergency services, Law Enforcement agencies, government agencies like Colorado State Forest Service, Dept. of Wildlife, NRCS and Las Animas County, and of course our neighbors like the City of Trinidad, Trinidad Lakes Subdivision, Crazy French Ranch, Wooten Ranch, and Vermejo Park Ranch.

The CWPP depends greatly on a mapping system.  Scalable base maps have been developed upon which a numbers of overlays can be added each adding another level of information.  Overlays show infrastructure at risk such as roads, buildings, facilities, water sources, etc., they also show potential hazards such as topography, fuel type, fuel loads, and fire risk.  The maps will be used to evaluate and prioritize efforts to provide safe emergency escape routes, safe zones, and direct efforts to compartmentalize the ranch to prevent rapid and catastrophic spread of wild fire.  These maps are now available as PDF downloads.

Our CWPP is not a static document just because we have a final draft. As the community changes, fuel breaks are created, and property owners do mitigation work around their homes, the Plan will be updated.

All Property Owners were mailed the draft version of the CWPP. Now the final draft and all the maps, appendixs and reference documents are available here for download. To restrict access to individual property information, we are not publishing the triage list (APPX D). There were no changes to that section from the draft, so please refer to your hard copy for that information.
